Radical Release Public Art Show

Join us at Mariposas Place of Wellness on Mother's Day, May 11, 2025, from 3-8 pm for the Radical Release Art Show - a powerful public exhibition featuring creative works and performances by Black mothers and children impacted by incarceration or violence, alongside works by the artists and healers who supported their journey.

This exhibition represents the culmination of the Radical Release Project. It continues the energy of our transformative retreat and post-retreat cord-cutting integration workshop. We welcome you into this sacred portal of rest and creativity.

  • Speeches from individuals directly impacted by incarceration

  • Poetry readings and kid storytime by survivors and advocates

  • A theatrical performance featuring stories of mothers impacted by incarceration

  • Distribution of a special zine curated by Toni Garcia Butler

About the Exhibition

The Radical Release Art Show transforms personal healing into public advocacy, inviting broader community engagement with social justice issues. Curated by Lo Patt and Sarah Martin (or Poetic Portals), this exhibition showcases participant creations that explore themes of rest, freedom, self-determination, and radical imagination.

Through visual art, poetry, and multimedia expressions, these mothers and children share their stories of resilience, healing, and hope. Their work stands as a testament to the power of creativity as a tool for healing and social change.
